The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is the primary medical contact for external scientific leaders (ESLs) and other relevant customers within the assigned geographic region. The position provides leadership in understanding and communicating the science underlying the assigned Zogenix product and the related therapeutic area(s). The MSL is responsible for developing trusted, collaborative, peer-to-peer relationships with top regional and local ESLs. The MSL helps inform Zogenix medical strategies and tactics through identifying insights through engagement with ESLs and other customers.   • Develop and manage trusted, collaborative, professional, peer-to-peer working relationships with ESLs, Clinical Investigators, and regional professional societies/patient advocacy groups
  • Develop annual ESL engagement plan that defines strategy for managing ongoing relationships and identifying and building new relationships
  • Develop thorough understanding of the pre-clinical, clinical, and other research/data that supports the safe and effective use of the assigned Zogenix product; keep up-to-date with new research/data as it is released
  • Provide clinical product presentations to US payor accounts as needed
  • Contribute meaningful insights to medical strategies and tactics
  • Support clinical development with site identification, site initiation visits, and/or other activities as needed
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with commercial colleagues to ensure optimal ESL engagement and patient care in a compliant fashion
  • Contribute to Zogenix global Medical Affairs vision through meaningful participation in global projects
  • May lead/support other Medical Affairs projects or other clinical development activities as assigned. 


  • Terminal science degree (e.g., MD, PhD, PharmD, NP) required
  • 1+ years of experience as a field-based Medical Science Liaison for a pharmaceutical/biotech company
  • Proven ability to establish trusting and collaborative relationships with experts in clinical and academic settings
  • Strong presence and ability to communicate in order to represent Zogenix and the assigned product with ESLs
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to be a team player and work collaboratively within Medical Affairs and cross-functionally within an organization
  • Ability to organize and manage scientific leadership activities such as advisory boards
  • Knowledge of compliance and ethical standards
  • Experience working with payor customers preferred
  • Experience in neurology and rare disease areas preferred


  • In-depth knowledge of relevant therapeutic area
  • Ability to understand and clearly explain pharmaceutical clinical trials
  • Superior oral presentation skills/written communication skills, including presentations to external and internal customers
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to work self-directed and independently
  • Self-awareness to seek guidance from manager or others when needed
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong sense of collaboration
  • Detailed understanding of regulatory and professional guidelines associated with the dissemination of medical information (OIG, FDA, AMA, ACCME, and PhRMA guidelines)
  • Possession of basic business acumen, business planning, and project management skills to facilitate implementation and execution of personal, departmental, regional and company objectives
  • Ability to formulate, initiate, lead, and delegate tasks to achieve target objectives
  • Must understand and respect company core values and possess the highest integrity


  • Willingness and ability to travel within the US up to 70%

Motor Vehicle Record Requirements

  • Valid license in state of residence.
  • No less than 1 year of driving experience.
  • No more than 1 major violation in the past 5 years.
  • No more than 3 moving violations or chargeable accidents in the past 3 years
