Sr. Manager, Finance – Germany

Position Summary

The Senior Manager, Finance, Germany will work closely with the Director, Finance, Europe (based in the UK) and the Country Manager, Germany to deliver financial results and growth in compliance with company policies, procedures and local regulations. They will set up the required financial framework and processes in liaison with the European Head Office. This individual will support the local German sales team, partnering with the Country Manager, Germany. This broad role will encompass activities from the strategic to the day to day accounting of the enterprise.

Essential Duties and responsibilities

  • Manage financial, accounting, tax and legal operations for the Country and Legal Entity
  • Ensure accurate monthly managerial reporting to European Finance Director
  • Work closely with department owners to prepare budgets, forecasts, long range plans and business cases to support management decisions
  • Manage costs and cash position, including funding requests
  • Work closely with company accountants, lawyers and other advisors
  • Ensure adequate financial and commercial governance
  • Ensure that the Country operates with the appropriate level of internal controls;
  • Contribute to the design, execution and follow-up of short and long-term business plans for the Country;
  • Partnering with the Country Manager to drive the business to achieve growth targets
  • Build strong, collaborative and positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Bring the Accounts Payable and Billing functions in-house and run these functions going forward
  • Responsible for the annual Statutory Accounts preparation, submissions and Audits as required.
  • Ensure compliance with Local GAAP and US GAAP and maintain an accurate reconciliation between the two accounting standards
  • Oversight and accountability for VAT and Corporation Tax submissions
  • Own and update the expenses policy and processes to ensure they remain compliant with evolving tax laws and group policy. Audit samples of expense claims to ensure they remain in line with policy
  • Schedule and lead BOD meetings and other Governance activities for the German entity
  • Produce and provide insightful commercial commentary on the management accounts packs
  • Support the payroll process; checking payroll data as well as processing the necessary payments to employees and external stakeholders (including social security, benefits providers etc.)
  • Other duties as required

Core Competencies, Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • PC literacy required; MSOffice skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • NetSuite not essential but advantageous
  • Great Plains not essential but advantageous

REQUIREMENTS

  • Qualified Accountant
  • Degree in Economics, Finance or other relevant field
  • At least 5 years of experience in Finance and/or Accounting
  • Strong experience with all finance functional areas, including reporting, controlling, accounting and tax
  • Experience in preparing and analyzing financial reports and projections
  • Excellent and confident communicator with a proven track record in building relationships
  • Experience of working in a small, growing biotech/pharmaceutical company is not essential, but advantageous
  • Proficient in driving change and identifying ways to improve the business
  • Delivery focused – ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities
  • Potential to grow with the needs of the business
  • Strong written and verbal English
  • Ability to effectively collaborate in a dynamic environment

TRAVEL, PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Regularly required to operate standard office equipment (personal computer, photocopy machine, etc.)
  • Ability to work on a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Regularly required to sit for long periods of time, and occasionally stand and walk.
  • Regularly required to use hands to operate computer and other office equipment.
  • Close vision required for computer usage.
  • Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, climb and lift up to 20 pounds.
  • 15% travel may be required to UK, Occasionally US
  • Role is based in the Munich, German Office
